Our latest Web Site Creation:

In the Beginning - There was Search

Online and Offline Businesses need to remember that the Internet is all about the Human Search Process (HSP).  Searching began when the first person evolved or was created.  Babies search for milk, humans search for food, adults search for mates, and current denizens of Planet Earth search for information via the Internet.  Searching is hard wired into our brain.  So if you want to be successful with your Internet Search Strategy include study of your target audience's searching behavior relative to the major engines.  A good case in point is Equiro's now famous eye tracking studies:

But what about Chinese and searchers that read from right to left.  Yes, there are what appears to be cultural differences:
http://searchengineland.com/070615-081218.php  However notice that there is a consistency that puts the main focus at the top of the page in the left corner.

Searching is a complex behavior involving many factors, some biological and some learned.  Study your target audience to better understand what they are seeing, thinking and doing.  In particular we highly recommend the research of key phrases for your specific goals via software SEO tools such as Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery.

Wordtracker versus Keyword Discovery

Most SEO Pros use some type of Keyword Research tool.  Keyword Research Tools are software programs connected to results databases that allow one to investigate the most powerful keywords for your product or business.  The top 2 tools out there today are Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery which are subscription based services.  The great debate on the SEO blogs is which tool is better.

Neither.  Try both and use them accordingly to your specific requirements.  Don't trust one source for your information, because as they say "results can vary" depending on the tool and the user.  In general from our research,  both are excellent tools and ideally both should be used and then compared to one another.  Consider also the use of "free keyword tools" that you can find on the Internet.  Gather all of the results, compile, analyse, check for trends and proritize your short list of the best keywords based on KEI (Keyword Effective Index) measures if possible

If Only Words Could Only Express the Way I Feel....

The fact of the matter is that we do use words to express the way we feel and to tell others what we want.  The psychology of semantics is at the core of what searchers use to find the information that they need.  Words have different feelings, colors, emotions, meanings depending on many factors.

But at the end of the day, a word is still a word. "Meanings are in a persons' minds, not in the words, and when we say that a word has or possesses such and such meanings, we are really saying that it has evoked, or caused, those meanings." The Psychology of Semantics, American Journal of Psychology, Edward L. Thorndike, 1946.  To complicate matters further, these meanings can change depending on our current mood and attitude of the day.

Research your Target Audience to find out what your keywords mean to them.  Pick your adjectives and adverbs carefully.  "Cheap" to one searcher for a particular product or service could mean "it's great" while to others it means "it sucks".  When in doubt go with the statistical average of descriptors used most often based on keyword research.
SEO Tip of the Month:
Breadcrumbs:  Named after breadcrumbs Hansel and Gretel left in the forest to go back to their house.   They are easy to read navigation links paths that show the exact location of the where the user is relative to the entire web site or section of the web site.  For example, the following is a breadcrumb link for Women's BrandX Anti-Aging Products for the Nose:   Products->>Ladies->>Cosmedics->>Face->>>Nose->>BrandX.  This serves a very useful function for allowing both users and search engines find your information.  Consider building breadcrumbs at the top of each one of your pages in a the same location.  Do your users know their way back to your Gingerbread House?
